Brained

In my last post, I claimed that my wife and I are opposites - which I've always believed is absolutely true.

But then I started wondering if this is just my own personal
perception or something more tangible, something that could actually be measured. Of course the simple fact that I'm even interested in measuring this in the first place should say enough, because my wife would no sooner be concerned about measuring this than whether or not there's enough oil in the lawnmower. But alas - I still needed cold hard proof.

Then I found this quick quiz which determines if you are more of a "right-brained" or "left-brained" person. I think the results pretty much say it all about us - opposites!

My Results
Right Brain (26%) The right hemisphere is the visual, figurative, artistic, and intuitive side of the brain.
Left Brain (66%) The left hemisphere is the logical, articulate, assertive, and practical side of the brain

Left brain dominant individuals are more orderly, literal, articulate, and to the point. They are good at understanding directions and anything that is explicit and logical. They can have trouble comprehending emotions and abstract concepts, they can feel lost when things are not clear, doubting anything that is not stated and proven.

My Wife's Results
Right Brain (62%) The right hemisphere is the visual, figurative, artistic, and intuitive side of the brain.
Left Brain (36%) The left hemisphere is the logical, articulate, assertive, and practical side of the brain

Right brain dominant individuals are more visual and intuitive. They are better at summarizing multiple points, picking up on what's not said, visualizing things, and making things up. They can lack attention to detail, directness, organization, and the ability to explain their ideas verbally, leaving them unable to communicate effectively.
Holy cow! That's us to a tee!

Another validation of our oppositeness is how we see ourselves as "Type A" and "Type B" personalities, her being the "A" and me the "B." Let's check what Wikipedia has to say about this...

A type "A" personality is described as:
  • Frequently doing more than one thing at a time
  • Urging others to hurry up and finish what they are saying
  • Becoming very irritated when traffic is blocked or when you are waiting in line
  • Gesturing a lot while talking
  • Having a hard time sitting with nothing to do
  • Playing to win all the time, even in games with children
  • Becoming impatient when watching others carry out a task
A type "B" personality is described as:
  • Relaxed
  • Likelier than a Type A personality to be patient
  • Creative and imaginative
  • Inclined to self-analyze

Once again we have a BINGO! Indisputable proof that we're different and opposite. And now that I have evidence that supports that, I can claim it as fact - and that makes me happy.

Because the last thing in the world a left-brained type "B" person wants to do is rely on something as unscientific as a 20-year relationship to tell him he's different than his wife. That just wouldn't be logical.

So now I ask you...

It would seem I'm about 50/50, fairly balanced. I have days where I think I'm more one side than the other, but it depends on the day.

Oh, way "b" here. He was an "a", big time. But he cut bait because life became too messy. Coward. O.k., I've had a glass of wine (or 2). Read todays post if you are wondering why!

You're welcome.

Easy way to tell which side of your brain is dominant, not kidding. Clasp your hands in front of you, fingers intertwined, and whichever thumb is on top is your dominant side. If you make yourself put the other thumb on top, it feels weird.

Should I seek treatment?

I think I have qualities of both hemispheres, however when I read the Type A I saw myself in with that group. We're wired differently though, THAT'S for sure!

hi, i usually end up "middle-brained" in tests of this nature, but this time around:
Right Brain |||||||||||||| 60%
Left Brain |||||||||||| 46%
Maybe being a jobless bum, no longer having to in a regimented job, has made me less left-brained? heehehe!

Been visiting for a while, but don't think I have ever commented. I stole this one to use on my blog. I was 68% Right and 38% Left.
