This September 11 will be the 5 year anniversary of that tragic day.
While visiting It's A Dog's Life the other day, I saw her post about this project and instantly knew I wanted to participate.
This project honors the 2996 victims of 9/11 by issuing a victim's name to every blogger who signs up. Then, on 9/11/06, 2996 bloggers will post their tributes to their assigned victims at the same time.
All you have to do to sign up is visit this site and leave a comment that you're interested in participating. You will then receive the name for your tribute plus a link to a page that has specific details about your person. I received my name the very next day.
As of today, it looks like they have only issued about 25% of the names they need. If this curve continues they are afraid they won't have enough bloggers ready by 9/11. Hopefully the momentum will grow as the network expands.
I am definitely not a fan of chain letters or guilt campaigns, but this project has a completely different purpose: to simply honor the innocent victims of a terrible and needless event.
Just reading the brief bio of my assigned victim, Denease (Denny) Conley, was enough to confirm that I had made the right decision by participating in this tribute. Her personal page already contains touching testimonials by her immediate family and closest friends. It's my job to bring them to you.
So - feel free to join the blogsphere of 2995 other bloggers and help make 9/11/06 a day to honor. I have a feeling it will be pretty cool!
