Vacation's all I ever wanted

For those of you keeping track, you may have noticed that I haven't been around this week. That's because we were outta here and romping in Wisconsin's largest playground - Wisconsin Dells!

For anyone who has never been there, consider it a million acres of summer fun - waterslides, go-cart tracks, roller coasters, bungee rides, Tommy Bartlett Thrill shows and much much more - all crammed into one tiny little town. Every square inch of the two main drag's roadside property has been devoted to entertainment of one form or another. One of the more curious features of the area is the bizarre competition among the big hotels to contain the "World's Largest Indoor Waterpark." Somehow, at least 5 major hotels have all managed to hold that honor at the same time.

We've stayed at most of these resorts in the past, but this year we chose to rough it and stay at a campsite instead. Here was our home base for the 3 days we were there.

Somehow, we were blessed with the best outdoor vacation weather you could ask for. Mid 80's during the day and low 60's at night with NO BUGS AT ALL! Anyone who's done any camping at all knows just how important that is.

Bottom line is we had a fabulous time. But for now I just wanted to drop a note to say I'm back and will update in the next few days. I'll be back then with highlights and pictures.

See ya soon!

Wow, tents. You must be brave. I don't think I could do that with kids. I guess your kids are older than mine though...

Glad you had fun. I haven't been there yet either. For someone who has lived in MN for most of my life, I haven't done a whole lot in the area I guess!

Wisconsin Dells, so pretty and what a blast! I long for your weather. It's been hot as hell in Oklahoma. And thanks for the title of your post, now I have that song going through my head . . . . arrgghh!

Nice campsite! As much as I enjoyed our caravaning trip, there's no way I'll sleep on the ground. I'm too old and creaky.

Looking forward to hearing your stories.

There you are! I figured you were away or something. Wisconsin Dells? I've never heard of it! I guess I'm pretty sheltered in my little cocoon here in the Northeast. I have to check it out now. Can't wait to hear more stories.

Missed your observations--Glad you had a great time. Did you know my parents visited the Wisconsin Dells on their honeymoon? EncourageDad people to visit the House On The Rock near the Dells.

heather - Tents are fun for kids of all ages! Although I suppose you wouldn't want to bring an infant in case he would disturb the rest of the campers. You ought to plan a trip out to the Dells some time. It too is fun for kids of all ages.

linda - Too bad. I had that song stuck in my head for the last 10 days!

mooselet - The big trick is to make sure you have a nice air bed (that doesn't deflate in the middle of the night). I slept as comfortable as I do at home.

waya - I can't even imagine all the cool places I don't know about in your neck of the woods. Around here we have to cling to the few spots we have. Fortunately, the Dells is a pretty good one!

dad - Yeah, but I heard when your parents went, Noah's Ark was actually Noah's Ark!

You are right. My dad did tell me that he went fishing with Noah who kept telling him to be careful. He reminded him that they only had two worms!

Isn't there a Tommy Bartlet water show where the skiers get in a pyramid just like on the "Vacation" video?

Now that I think about it, Hyde's mom worked there before she got pregnant!

My wife refuses to sleep in a tent. She slept in a KOA cabin a few times when my kid was a Cub Scout but that was as close as it got. That campsite looks very comfortable. I will have to make it to the Dells someday.

Girlie would be so jealous. She is dying to sleep in a tent. I'm glad you had a great time. Shoot some of that weather down here so that I can take Girlie on a campout.

I love your very well organized and lovely looking campsite! We always end up looking like vagrants.

Your Dad is Funny AND Tech savvy!

Did you watch for falling branches?

bugwit - You are correct. Tommy Bartlett IS the same guy who does all the cool waterski stuff - but it's moved WAY beyond waterskiing at this point!

yellojkt - Then I'm guessing she's also not a big fan of campsite Porta Potties either?

wendy - Huh? I'm supposed to shoot WI weather down to FL so you can camp? What am I missing here.

but momma - Well, that was a picture when we first got there. It looked a little more "used" by the time we left. Oh and - about my dad... are you sure we're talking about the same "Dad" here?

rick - Funny thing was - the first thing I did when we got there was look up to assess the branch situation!

I don't know?

but momma - I know, that was a joke on my part. The joke of course being that my dad is funny and tech savvy.

I've ridden a duck in the Dells! I love Wisconsin! But I have to admit that Door County is my personal favorite. :)
