Last week Karl and Dave wrote some nice posts about things they believe in.
I've stated in the past that I don't use my blog as a political or religious platform because those types of issues are my business, and I like to keep them that way. And besides, no matter what you write along those lines, 1/2 of the people are going to disagree with you anyway.
HOWEVER - in this case, since everyone seems to be spilling their belief buckets all over their blogs, I thought I'd jump in and share a few of my general beliefs along these lines as well.
I believe that our environment is NOT a political issue. I can't believe that some people actually debate whether or not it can be proven that people are causing global warming. My question to that is... What possible difference does it make!??? How can someone argue that it's a bad idea to protect the environment? I believe it's still a good idea to reduce emissions as much as possible and eliminate our dependency on foreign oil with other earth-friendly sources such as wind and solar energy no matter what side of the aisle you vote on.
I believe our current educational model is severely outdated. Schools today are using a system that was developed over 50 years ago, decades before tools such as compact scientific calculators and computers were even invented. I believe students should be taught how to use our current technology to most effectively retrieve information and apply it, rather than how much they can stuff into their brains through memorization.
I believe that as long as our current political system is the fundamental engine responsible for health care reform - we will never see a day when all children, women and men have unrestricted access to health care. Never.
I believe our electoral process is a joke. The way it is set up now, the only choices we end up with on voting day are just the richest candidates in only two major parties. There is literally NO chance that the most qualified candidate will ever end up President unless he winds up in one of these two spots - which hasn't happened in my lifetime.
I believe pedophiles should be castrated - particularly repeat level 3 and sexually violent predators.
I believe that there should not be any distinction over what race a person is. I think it is ridiculous that some applications and forms still have checkboxes on them and some institutions still make decisions based on what percentage of a race a person may be. It is my hope that one day all "labels" will be eliminated and we can simply call each other by our names instead of our ancestry.
And finally, I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way...
What? Whitney already took that one?
Wow. I believe Whitney Houston at least got something right!
