Hey wait, I know this one...

I almost hate to post this right before a long holiday weekend because I know it's probably going to just sit here and rot like an old nectarine - but I think this is a fun idea so I'm going to go with it anyway. I'll just leave it out here until after Christmas to give you plenty of time to check it out.

What I'm going to do here is post 10 classic TV show theme songs, and you get to guess what shows they are from.

How fun is that!!!

Actually, it's not as easy as it sounds. You should be able to easily recognize the tunes, but coming up with what show they belong to is a different matter altogether. Hey wait, I know this one, but I can't remember... is that from Magnum P.I. or C.H.I.P.S?

See I told you it wasn't easy. But you're a pretty smart bunch so I'm confident you'll nail these in no time, although you may need to be a little older to know some of these. For instance, my brother will probably do great at this. Heh.

Anyway, good luck and have fun!

If you enjoyed this little game just let me know. I've got a TON more (with much harder ones) to do this many times over.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you have a GREAT holiday!!!

That's like a red flag in front of a bull, saying we'll probably ignore this.

Okay I wasn't allowed to watch much TV in the 70s (allowed 2 shows, plus sneaks of Love Boat and Fantasy Island), got a little more in the 80s. So here's my best shot:

1. Charlie's Angels

2. No answer.

3. Growing Pains

4. No answer

5. Adam-12 (?)

6. Couldn't get this to play properly.

7. Greatest American Hero (a fave of ours)

8. No answer

9. No answer

10. IS KILLING ME BECAUSE I KNOW THIS SONG!!!!!! I'll be back. It will come to me.

Is #10 The Rockford Files?

It was hard for me to guess since with my slow Internet speed I could only hear 1 second at a time!! Oh well. Someday we'll be faster. Maybe.

Have a fab Christmas Jeff.

julie - Good start! Of the ones you answered you only got 1 wrong. Looks like I picked the right title, according to your #10 ;-)

Oh, and with this player you sometimes have to click the start button twice before it will play.

heather - Sorry but no. Still on dial-up these days? You have a great Christmas too, thanks!

#5 is wrong..it's like that show but not that show, right?

#10 is a sitcom tickling the edge of my brain

Jeff said...

julie - Sorry, but NO CLUES FOR YOU! You already figured out half the game! Ok 1/3 but still ;-)

Oh my God. I think I have #10. It's that show that the guy who played Ted Baxter in MTM played in. He had two daughters I think. I have no idea of the name of the show. Oh wait! Thank god for IMDB. It's "Too Close for Comfort" isn't it?

What drugs have you been taking and will you share?

Merry Christmas, Jeff, to you and yours.

9 is Gentle Ben (I think)

You'll be surprised how quickly people get these Jeff, I've done stuff similar and worried that no one will know any of them and the answers have been found in the first two comments.

Jeff, you are evil. I'm going to have #9 playing in my head all night.

1) Charlies Angels
2) Mannix
3) Growing Pains
5) Kojak
7) Greatest American Hero (We LOVED this show)
Don't know on the rest. Those are just the shows my parents watched..hehe.

The police siren gets me on #6. It's not Hawaii 5-o, not Starsky and Hutch, not CHIPs. hmmmm.

By the way, I own the entire series of M*A*S*H*, I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke Show, and Magnum. Those I DO know in a heartbeat. (oh, I can spot the A-team a mile away)

I'm so nauseous from the Growing pains theme I can't go on.

OMG - they all sound familiar! I'm going back to listen again & I'm not looking at anyone's answers. But...why do you have these?

They're fun...I vote for more :)

Oh you are cruel! Of course I knew them all and couldn't name any of them! Here I am listening and thinking, OOOh that was that detective show! But what show?! Then I cheated and looked at the answers provided so far. I am going to try and ID the ones that aren't yet.

First, I want to know how you can post a day in the future. Can you get me football scores from a day in the future?

We just played this last night at my wife's holiday party. The DJ played the tune, you guessed it, then you had to guess things from the TV show and he threw a shiny dollar coin at you. I got one correct answer because I knew the King in Mr. Rogers' Land of Make Believe was Friday the 13th.

My wife's firm's holiday party, that is. And Jeff, I just wanted you to know I know which side of the fruit cake battle you are on and I salute your efforts on behalf of The Mighty Fruitcake.

You guys are doing a great job, but you're not quite there yet. I'll validate the ones you did get right so far.

1. Charlie's Angels
2. Mannix
3. Growing Pains
4.
5.
6.
7. Greatest American Hero
8.
9. Gentle Ben (good one Dan!)
10. Too Close For Comfort

Keep at it folks!

My guesses on those not yet identified...

4. Barnaby Jones
5. Marcus Welby
6. Emergency
8. Streets of San Francisco

Pretty sure about 6 and 8.

Boy, did I watch way too much TV in the 70's.

Julia said...

Oh, wow. I suck as badly as a rotting nectarine. I thought #1 was Mannix, and after that...nothing. I already cheated and looked at your answers, but I think I'll forward this to my brother, who will guess every one correctly within the first two notes.

Love it! Keep 'em coming!

Jeff said...

Ooh, thanks to Phil you're getting closer! Here's the tally so far...

1. Charlie's Angels
2. Mannix
3. Growing Pains
4.
5.
6. Emergency
7. Greatest American Hero
8. Streets of San Francisco
9. Gentle Ben
10. Too Close For Comfort

1. Charlie's Angels
2. Mannix
3. Growing Pains
4. Adam-12
5. ?
6. Emergency
7. Greatest American Hero
8. Streets of San Francisco
9. Gentle Ben

Jeff -- I was sure I knew #5, but now perhaps not. I believe it's the Six Million Dollar Man, but it sounds like a slowed down version when I listen to it again, so maybe I'm wrong.

Keep doing these! They're maddening, but fun!

Kathy's right, I shoud have known, Steve Austin... don't ever do this again.

Jeff said...

AND we have a wrap!

The actual soundtrack has the narrator giving the spiel about "...we can make him better...etc" so I had to edit that out. And of course if they'd have put that "bionic" sound effect in there as well I wouldn't have been able to use it either, because that would have made it too easy.

Good job everybody. But these were the easy ones. I'll definitely make a new batch next month that you'll REALLY hate me for. Thanks for playing!

1. Charlie's Angels
2. Mannix
3. Growing Pains
4. Adam-12
5. Six Million Dollar Man
6. Emergency
7. Greatest American Hero
8. Streets of San Francisco
9. Gentle Ben
10. Too Close For Comfort

There's no way I'm even going there, I didn't have a TV growing up and hardly ever watch it now, so I give up. If you had put up the classic hits of the 80's I might be able to help you out some. Go MULLETTS

Mom Thumb said...

I sucked at this because the only one of these shows I ever watched was Greatest American Hero. The only reason I knew Growing Pains is because Jess used to watch reruns of it on cable.
Merry Christmas!

I'm late to the table but at least I got No.2 right as the Mannix theme. Thought No.8 was Ironside. All the rest sounded like every show that ever had Bruce Dern as "Special Guest Star."

Now Santa can finally go to bed.
Merry Christmas.

discover said...

Next time you should post different pictures unmatched with these tunes...do you think everyone would still have a hard time figuring things out?

Jeff said...

bunk - Funny, Bruce did seem to show up in everything in those days, didn't he? Thanks for the Christmas wishes, hope you had a great one too!

discover - Oh, that's mean. But I like it!

At first, I thought that I didn't know the shows because I was too young to have remembered them. Now I know that it is because I am on the back side of forty and my mind has begun to shed the useless trivia in order to make room for the names of all the diseases I think I have and all the pills I must take to keep going. Wait a minute...that is my kid's fault. Where am I and why am I in this handbasket???????
