Open Letter to Ralph Nader

Dear Mr. Nader:

It has come to my attention that you have recently formed an exploratory committee to determine if you will run as a 2008 presidential candidate.

I realize that in the past you were instrumental in forming OSHA and played an important role as a consumer advocate and watchdog for product and automobile safety issues, your work with the EPA has helped raise awareness of our environmental responsibility as an industrialized nation, and your stand against big business and corporate greed has helped keep large monopolies in check. I'm sure you are very proud of those accomplishments.

And as a voter, I have no problem supporting an independent candidate. In fact, the first time I ever voted was for John Anderson in 1980. Unfortunately I also helped bring Jesse Ventura into office as Minnesota's governor in 1998, but I've apologized for that many times over since then.

But if you don't mind Mr. Nader, I have just one small request...

...STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS ELECTION!!!

I know you say you didn't siphon votes away from Al Gore in 2000, but right now we cannot afford even the smallest diversion from the one candidate who can finally be the voice of reason for this country.

So if you could just do us that one little favor and go back inside, have a beer and leave the business of running for president to Mr. Obama - that would be great.

Sincerely,

Me, and everyone else who is ready for a change

We were just talking about that....couldn't agree more. Shall we actually start a petition?

No kidding!

And I might add...

Dear Mr. Nader,

If you don't listen to my friend's previous letter, you'll leave me with no choice but to come to your house with duct tape and secure you to your kitchen chair until November.

Consider this fair warning.

Thanks for your past work, but it's time to put up your feet and retire.

Sincerely,
MammaLoves Obama

pg - Yes, it's time for him to stay out of it.

april - You're welcome!

carla - Maybe you should draft one up and post it.

mamma - That's the problem with guys like him... they don't know when to take a break.

I do love Ralph on many levels, but I not on the "getting in the way of Election 2008" kind of way.

That said, I feel a little constrained at times by the exclusive two party system.

You are brave. No matter who gets in, there are few dollars not already spent. I wish everyone could get medical, dental, and automatic raises like our politicians and other countries do.-Bill

julie - I so wish they could figure out how to have run-off votes or some kind of system where you could actually vote for underdog candidates without penalty. Imagine how many great candidates we are not even getting the chance to look at because they know they could never win.

bill - Our government has a LONG way to go before the corruption and greed gives way to the greater social need of our country. But we can't give up and need to support the most likely person to start that ball rolling. That's not being brave, that's being responsible.

Jeff, I applaud your plea to Ralph but for different reasons. I am one of the stalwarts still hoping for a Huckabee victory in Texas and Ohio but in the likely event that McCain wins, I might have to join you in voting for Obama. God forbid Hillary should win. Her tactics toward Obama in the primaries show her true colors.

is he still . . . alive?

Obama says he'll bring change but exactly what kind of change does he mean? I've heard very few specifics come out of his mouth.

Sandy said...

sign my name to that letter too, will ya?

Jeff said...

ed - Unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely for Huckabee that he's going to pull it off. McCain has a lot of momentum right now.

dallas meow - Apparently so. He's kind of like an election vampire. He only comes out during campaigns and then sucks the life out of the democrats.

jennine - The change he refers to is the difference between how he will handle things vs how they're currently being handled. You can go to this page and click on the issues link to read specifics on every one of his policies. Of course you'll have to unblock the site from your browser security first ;-)

sandy - You just did.

How crappy was your Presidential campaign when you have to use Ralph Nader as an excuse why you lost?

I got totally pissed when I got some lame ass e-mail about Obama being a terrorist Muslim. When I got it, I was in the middle of his book (where he talks about being a Christian). Besides, haven't people who spread this crap ever heard of Snopes?

I think Chuck Norris would say Nader is too old to run for prez.

Read the headlines this morning? Crap!

Jeff said...

carla - I know. Can you believe he didn't listen to me? Sheesh.

I think i know what you are saying. But then again I could be wrong. I've never heard of this mr nader person but is he an ex football star? If so I just want to say, stick to what you know...sacking people. leave politics to people that haven't had their brains scrambled. and hopefully you can forward that message to mr narder. yeah,,,typo on purpose

I guess he didn't read your blog.

I'm not opposed to an independent, either, in theory. I voted for Perot once in the 90s...just to make a statement. But I know I'll never see an independent win the Presidency.

Come on, Ralph...do the people a favor. Drop out.

Where do I sign? Well said indeed.

Ralph Nader is from my neck of the woods, and here he is a big dealeo.

I'm still going to vote for Pedro.

Go Obama!!! I plan on helping with his campaign when the time gets near. After last night's debate I think Hillary is toast. She didn't do what she had to do in the debate.

(not that you need it of course - just an FYI).
