To buy or not to buy?

A few months ago I lost my camera. But since I refuse to admit it's actually lost, I won't go out and get a new one. But I know for a fact that the very day I buy a new one, my old one will come walking into the kitchen, look up at me and say, "Hey - what's up dork?"

But my blog has been suffering for the lack of quality personal photos lately. Case in point... here's the very last image I posted after I lost my camera and had to resort to using my cell phone.

See what I mean? I've seen better pictures of Big Foot.

So now, I've given up taking pictures altogether, and it's been bothering me a lot. And then this weekend I missed out on a once in lifetime shot that I'm kicking myself I wasn't able to capture.

On Sunday I needed to climb up in my attic and lay down new insulation, so I dressed myself in my coveralls, put on a hat and started getting ready to start the project. All of a sudden I turn around and Rosie is standing there in matching coveralls and hat ready to help me out. I couldn't have been prouder to have her as my helper, and I couldn't have been more disappointed that I didn't have a camera to save the moment.

So... instead of a quality Kodak moment, I've had to resort to a crappy MS Paint moment so I can at least share something with all of you.

Ya, I think it's time.

Awww, there's no Nikon D70s pressure to buy a Nikon camera. Your Nikon drawings are better than SLR any photo I've ever not canon taken.

Her heart shows great in your drawing!

Oh, this is so great Jeff! I'm sorry you lost the photo moment, but it doesn't matter because she knows how proud you are of her.

I'm not a good camera shopper. I got a Nikon Coolpix. It's good for anything but micro shots, which is something I wanted it to do well. Alas, I didn't test enough when I bought it. Good luck picking a good one!

Oh, and your graphic skills are better than mine. Yes, you should pity me.

Are there any politicians giving away cameras, like they're giving away everything else? And Rosie--Grandma's so proud of you---helping Daddy like that!!!! You are the biggest sweetheart ever!!!

jennine - Why do I have this unexplainable urge to buy a Nikon D70 SLR digital camera? Weird.

bill - Thanks... it was even bigger in real life :-)

kathy - I pity you all right, for having to look at my drawing instead of a nice digital picture. Problem is, I don't have any money saved for a new camera. But I do have a big gig this weekend. Maybe I'll just keep that money and not tell Charli! Wait...

mom - Maybe Oprah is giving away free cameras. Where do I get tickets?

A striking resemblance, indeed.

I went through several Sony's before vowing never to buy one again. Got a Canon about a year ago and am as happy as a clam. I'm sure there are better ones on the market, but it suits my needs and was under $150 AUD. Maybe Santa will bring you one for Christmas. :-)

Hey, just keep the receipt... forEVER. It'll make sure the old one never comes back ;) And if it does show up, maybe Rosie deserves a new camera for all her generous helping?

I think my head would explode if I didn't have a camera.

It's a lovely drawing though.

What the hell do you need a camera for? MS Paint roolz.... and just think... no Photoshopping required!

Hey my word verification is "burac". Is that some sort of subliminal message or something? If so, too bad it was wasted on a Canuck.

Dude, just get a new camera, they are practically a dime a dozen. Of course, if you want a really good one, it might cost you a quarter.

I feel so bad you lost your camera!!! Can I send your Christmas present early, so you can buy a new one, and then you'll be able to take pictures for your blog and for Christmas?

Wow, what a great daughter you have! And I think you should print out your picture and put it on the fridge!

you could start selling your art and have the money to buy a camera in no time!

seriously, point and shoot cameras out now are getting more megapixels all the time, and like Mooselet says...they're cheap!

I'm sure the photos on my blog make you cringe. Deal.

We found grandmas old black and white Browniethat you can have. It may be rusty because she always spit on the flashbulb ends "because they work better"

It definitely is time. ;-)

Who needs a camera when you can capture the spirit of the moment with a drawing like that?

Honestly, you have no idea what that kind of picture will mean to her.

The love and pride shine through not only because you took the time to draw it, but because of the desire to capture the moment with your daughter.

Honestly, I was already planning a post this afternoon about losing things because of a weekend incident. But seriously if you have kids, a camera is an absolute necessity. Get a cheapo one so that you won't be out much when your old one walks back in. Weird, my veri is 'corner.'

Oh that brings back memories for me.
I was always my dads 'little helper'

I learned how to decorate, hang wallpaper, mix cement, tile, grout and lots of things. It has been a God send all my life! There's not much I haven't done for myself, rather than employ a tradesman!

Get a new camera, then when your old one turns up give it to Rosie :O)

Don't worry about the pictures. They're already photo'd on the internet somewhere. I'm convinced that as soon as everything in the world is photographed and put ont he internet, the world will end...

Ha! Ha!

You're right, as soon as you buy a new camera your old one would show up, and then you'd have two! You could leave one in the car or give one to your kids.

gette - Are you saying I look like a cartoon character?

mooselet - Not too bad! Right now $150 AUD = $100 USD. I can live with that.

michelle - I can't hang on to a camera, how the heck do you expect me to hang on to a receipt!

heather - If your head explodes make sure someone else at least has a camera. You know, to take a picture of it. That would be cool.

maureen - Yeah but I Photoshop most of my pictures with MS Paint. And your right... it roolz fo shizzle.

roger - I'm thinking about checking the dollar store. Even better.

mom - You can send me Christmas money but don't feel bad if I don't spend it all on a camera. I mean why would I need a $10,000 camera for petes sake?

elizabeth - She is a sweetie, that's for sure. This is one of those Polaroid pictures. You can tell by the border.

bon bon - I know. I saw a pretty nice one for around $100 and it was super slim. And shiny too!

april - Naw, I'm not a cringer. Besides, none of your photos are as bad as my cell phone pics. Those I can't deal with.

bill - I'll take that Brownie. And sell it on eBay. And then buy a good camera.

mulled - Yes, it is for sure.

jormengrund - Aw shucks... thanks for the nice comment. And you're right, she did like the picture a lot. :-)

mom thumb - So what happened... did you lose your post?

memarie - Yes, two "Painters" we are.

babs - That's funny. She actually told me when we were done that when she someday gets her own house she'll be glad she knows how to insulate an attic. :-b

ve - What a Revelation!

jen - With my luck I'd just lose them both.

AWWWW. Now see, this is a good example of why NOT to buy a new camera! I love your drawing -- it's very sweet and captures the moment better than any photograph could.

That drawing is so cute Jeff! The same type of thing that happened to me and my hubby. We celebrated our 10th anniversary over the weekend and he bought me a pair of gorgeous diamond earrings from www.idonowidont.com. I wanted to take a picture of us with my new earrings on, but our camera was too slow and old. So we need a new digital camera too!

kc said...

Even w/o the pic, she will remember. Some of my fondest memories growing up are of helping my dad work on the cars. And the drawing will probably mean more to her than a photo anyway.

But you shouldn't be w/o a camera, just in case. You can get not-too-bad digitals for $30 at Wal-Mart; tat should serve until yours comes back.

So, it's safe to assume that most husbands are dorks. Case in point, my hubbie bought HIMSELF an iPod for Father's day one year and then lost it (blaming our 2 year old baby misplaced it) and then he went out and bought another one. They should have that "clap on, clap off" function to find these gadgets just for men.

Corrina said...

You drew that with MS PAINT? Wow... Whatever I try to make there looks like a blind person did it, with their FACE.

Get a new camera! Then post killer photos!
