Dear President Obama:
Congratulations on becoming the President of the United States of America!
In my wildest dreams I cannot figure out why anyone would want to be President at a time like this, but your intelligent voice of reason has given me confidence that you are the right man for the job - and with that I would like to wish you the very best of luck.
You're an amazing man who has taken an impossible journey and I'm humbled by your achievements. At this very moment barriers are evaporating and hope is being given to the many less fortunate children of this country who otherwise would never be able to imagine the possibility of reaching this kind of success.
Please know that I, along with millions of other Americans, have given our complete trust in your ability to lead this great nation out of war and financial crisis, invigorate energy innovation, restore the respect of the United States to the rest of the world, and cure cancer*. I know that's a mighty tall order but you said you could do it, and we're holding you to it.
So have at it Mr. Obama. You've got exactly 77 days to get your house in order and take command of this giant unwieldy ship. The world is watching and you are at the helm.
And with that I would like to again wish you good luck and God bless.
Oh, and that "I voted for change" thing I mentioned above? That's my vote of confidence that you'll make sure I get some back from my paycheck. Thanks, I appreciate that.
* Ok, I know you didn't say the cancer thing, but I figured I'd toss that in there while you were on a roll, you know - just in case.

Mind if I throw in my two cents?
Holy crap. Are you serious?
Whoo Hoo! Congrats President Obama! Now protect him, please from the idiots.... not only America, but the world needs him right now.
I think a lot of Aussie's would be happy to hear this and welcome a return to honest and open exchanges of ideas with the States.
Well done, President-Elect Obama.
jennine - I've never been more serious in my life.
maureen - Amen to that.
mooselet - I would think people all over the world are thinking this is a good thing. Glad to you hear your folks agree.
So, I guess that means Palin is coming back up here to Alaska, huh?
You forgot that he was going to lower the seas and all that stuff.
I wish him the best, even though I don't agree with him - it's still my country after all. :)
Why do you think he didn't look elated :) I do trust that things will be better in 4 years.
Woot!
Historic night. One that I think my kids will remember, since I let them stay up late to watch the victory speech.
But, hey, what I really want to know is... Al Franken?!?!?
The Senate just got a whole lot funnier.
Congratulations! I think you voted well!
I'm with ya, brother brother! sis
Very nice, my friend.
elizabeth - Funny. Don't forget we had Jesse Ventura. I've been there.
roger - Thank you. That's very gracious of you.
april - He's not a man of huge emotional swings. He didn't get rattled during the debates and he didn't explode with happiness when he was elected. But that's one of the things I admire about him. He seems cool, calm and collected. We need that right now.
heather - You said it!
phil - Apparently no fat lady has sung around here yet. This one's going up for recount!
anette - Me too... thanks!
anon - Hey sis. Looking forward to seeing you on turkey day. Mmmmm.
teri - Thanks. Can you tell I admire him?
I'm so happy. Obama is president and Sarah is going away.
Turn and face the strain ch ch changes....
here here, whatta night, what a speech!
I think puppies not just for Sasha and Malia, but for everyone in America! Yes we can, yes we did!
mom thumb - Yeah, but I'm gonna miss Sarah. She provided SO much material for the late night guys.
windyridge - It was very cool indeed. A night I'll never forget for sure.
fancy - Aha... puppies was his plan the whole time! I bet he owns a large puppy factory!
I voted with you. What an amazing time in history - what a great day to be an American.
Puppies for everyone?! What a plan!
that was me - lil g, out with my real name up above :)
I can kinda tell, yeah. :)
your democratic pickles are in our republican refrigerator, but I'll share them with everyone which you won't seem to mind
I am thankful that Obama got elected because I have a close friend and neighbor that served as a Tuskegee flier during WW2. I also was happy when Bush picked Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell for cabinet officers. Even Clinton should get credit for driving Vernon Jordan around in a gold cart in front of the press. Our economy tanked because Alan Greenspan talked Clinton into removing controls on Wall Street. He said the banks could regulate themselves. It was bank sub-prime mortgages that took us down, even if Al Franken said they were doing a great job. We have had Democrats in control of both houses for two years and nothing got done about energy, illegal imigration and saving social security etc. Obama will have his hands full trying to wake them up, while negotating with terrorists. I wish he had the funds to keep everyone smiling, but I would be happy if he just outlawed lobbyists. History was made on our watch, please support President Obama.
That was a beautiful post.
Well said Bill! Now can you go and repeat that to my brother who is convinced the country is now going to hell in a handbasket?
It was interesting listening to the kids at school today parroting their parents reactions to the election. Most of them were happy and excited. But some kids were saying things like "He's going to take all our guns away." or "Now we're going to be attacked by terrorists!"
Material for late night guys versus sticking an icepick in my temple every time she opens her mouth? Duh.
Ooops, I hit the send button by accident. Anyway, listening to the kids was interesting. And I think the teachers did a good job with all of their concerns.
lil g'na - I know you whether you're g or Gina... you can't fool me. Do you think Ahmadinejad likes puppies?
teri - I was wearing long sleeves last night. I guess my heart was on them.
darren - LOL... you're right! And if you make a sandwich with them make sure to spread the mayonnaise around too. ;-)
bill - Good comments dad. I agree that congress has fallen asleep over the last 2 years. Of course when your president is "the decider" it's pretty hard to get things passed too. I think Obama has the skills to work with both camps.
mom - Thanks. I was hoping I'd be able to post it.
mooselet - Yes, your brother was a little bitter this morning, but that's why he has a blog. He has the right to write whatever he wants - and that's a good thing!
elizabeth - They do the voting thing are my kids' schools too. You're right.. I think it's just their way of trying to find out how we vote as parents.
mom thumb - Oh my, I didn't realize your allergies to her were so strong. ;b
Excellent post Jeff. :-) That banner made me laugh... So clever! haha
I can't express my total, and utter RELIEF. Thank GOD. Hope won!
That's good, cause you gotta a lotta heart!
The "race ceiling" certainly has been shattered and I'm all for that. But I still don't want to have to "pay anyone's gas and mortgage" though!
Years ago my black neighbor said, "I want to thank you for not sending my children home first when kids start throwing sand in your sand box. You only sent those guilty and let mine stay. It is hard to explain to innocent children why people can be so mean and unfair". Perhaps America has changed.
I will happily sign my name to that letter, my friend!
(But wait. You're saying Obama may not be able to cure cancer? Oh, well. He still rocks.)
GOBAMA!

I agree: I feel bad for whomever has to follow this disaster of an administration. Congratulations and good luck President Obama!
