Song-O-Grams

Every now and then I like to have a little fun and play games on this blog. For example, 3 times now I've hosted these TV theme song contests (that Kathy is jonesing for again). But these posts take a long time to set up and right now I'm still overbooked.

So for now I've decided to try something a little different. Below you will find 5 sets of lyrical phrases that I've modified by removing one letter from each word (except for the one-letter words) and smushing all the letters together. The end result is that these phrases now look like native Inuit poems.

Here's an example of how it works:
love me tender,
love me sweet,
never let me go.

By removing all the red letters you get this:
ovemteder
loeeswet
everleeg

Now it's your turn. I'll even give you some hints. Among these five chunks of lyrics you will find (in no particular order) a country song, a TV theme song, a Disney song, a rock song and a love song.

I don't know, these may be super easy or hair pullingly frustrating. I have no idea. But either way... good luck and have fun! Oh... and bonus points if you can identify the post title.

I have a hard enough time when you give me the full lyrics. This is impossible.

My brain hurts.

I thought maybe the first line of #2 was "Do you know the way to San Jose?" But. Um. No. This is going to be brutally hard, but I love a good challenge. I'll be back!

dan - What could you possibly have to do that's more important that this?

yellojkt - I have a feeling someone's going to bust this thing fairly quickly. When you're the one who writes these, they seem so obvious.

avitable - That's cause you use it too much. Mine rarely hurts.

kathy - I hope this is a challenge for you. I haven't gotten one of your impossible "What's That Wednesday" pictures.

First of all. I hate you. I got one. And it is in my Top 5 most-hated songs ever. It'll be running through my head all day.

#4: "But if you tell my heart, my achy breaky heart, he might blow up and kill this man."

What a stupid lyric, now that I type it out. Another reason to hate that song.

Jeff, thank you for the challenge! These are great.

You're making me think way too hard for 6:30 in the morning! :)

I can see No 4, but I have a feeling these may be US songs. Can you assure me that a 'mature' lady from the UK will know these songs? ;O)

You silly goose. Words are my thing! I got 'em, but don't wanna blurt out the answers..............

Number three is the theme song from "Three's Company." That one jumped out at me. The rest . . . well, let's just say that the taxes I've been putting off doing are looking pretty easy right now.

Don't go changing - this is fun!

I got them all. That was easy.

Jeff said...

kathy - I know what you mean. This song makes me want to blow up and kill somebody.

elizabeth - Hey, I can't help it you live on the edge of the western hemisphere.

babs - Well, except for the Disney song they are pretty well known... even for "mature" people. ;-)

teri - Sure. Sure you know them all. We'll go with that.

mom thumb - You got it. That one was pretty obvious.

caron - Don't worry, I love you just the way you are.

bill - I this is really Bill, I doubt it. If this is Rick, I'd believe it.

Led Zeppelin: Stairway to Heaven:

there's a feeling I get
when I look to the west
and my spirit is crying for leaving

You've got me stumped on the other ones thus far. Thanks.

unfinished rambler - Yepper. Good job!

Alright you other smarty pants. You say you know em so you might as well show em. Here's what's been unveiled so far.
1. (not guessed yet)

Sorry to be a party pooper, but here's No. 1:

Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Next time beware

The Bare Necessities from The Jungle Book

Okay, now I can actually go do what I was supposed to be doing earlier. Thanks for killing part of my afternoon. :)

Jeff said...

Ok, looks like we have them all!

Now that I see how this has played out, watch for round 2 in the near future. I promise that one will be MUCH tougher.

1. The Bare Necessities (Jungle Book)

2. Just the Way You Are

3. Three's Company

4. Achy Breaky Heart

5. Stairway to Heaven

Title: Name That Tune

VE said...

Well that was easy...you just squint and you'll get them after a couple of minutes...

Let's see how good you are with them though:
HEOU, OUHERENHECOD
GTTINGLOELYFELINGOL,
ANOUFELE?

Jeff said...

VE - You're right, that is pretty easy. For the future, I'm going to pick on phrases with short little words, like the Love Me Tender example I used. Those are much harder.

But I'm a little concerned about your choice of lyrics. No, I can't feel you - nor do I want to. Sorry.

Gette said...

#1 is "Bare Necessities" from Jungle Book. (I have too many kids).
#2 to make it official, "Just the Way You are"

VE said...

Ha! It just happened to be playing while I was blog surfing. I don't think it really means touching you realize. But who really knows what The Wall lyrics mean...

Michelle said...

Wow. You have some dedicated people here. I got the Name That Tune but ummmm the rest? I cheated and looked to see if there were any that hadn't been guessed. All my work had been done for me already ;)

Jeff said...

gette - Ya gotta love the Bare Necessities. I used to belt that one out big time when my kids were babes.

ve - I know you're a cyclist, but you're also a pretty good back peddler! ;-)

michelle - That's right. My peeps don't mess around.

Roger said...

I got here too late, but I did know the title. :)

Roger said...

I know why it was so tough now... You didn't follow your own rules in the example. You took out the 'M' instead of the 'E' - sheesh!

That is my excuse, and I am sticking with it. :p

Jeff said...

roger - Hey... don't put rules in my mouth. I only said to remove one letter, I never said which one. ;-)

Damn your mind games. I don't expect to have my brain stretched while online. How about somethng for us simpletons?

Crap, that looks like just too much work for right now.
