Thank you! I'll TAKE that help

Wow... you guys are all kinds of awesome.

THANK YOU for all your outpouring of support over my impending doom. People have offered to help both in the comments and in private emails, and I'm totally blown away. Don't ever let anyone tell you that the friendships gained through blogging aren't real. This is as real as it gets folks. So yeah, thank you again. Just having everyone offer to help makes me feel better already.

The business my son Brandon and I have started is called Virus Stompers (soon to be available at www.virusstompers.com). We are providing a complete virus removal service for a single flat fee of only $50. Most other companies charge $100 - $150 for this same service. Brandon has been doing this professionally at a local computer shop for a few years now and has all the skills necessary to clean up any mess. The only thing he's concerned about is cleaning up the messes I make.

Virus Stompers will operate under the principle that we will attract more business through a low cost offering. And, because 90% of virus removal is simply scanning and waiting, we can multitask several computers at once.

Here are the 3 main ways we will operate:

1. Remotely, using fancy schmancy software that allows us to control your computer from our office
If that isn't possible, then...

2. You mail us your hard drive
If you aren't able to remove it yourself then...

3. You mail us your laptop or desktop
(In the last 2 cases, the customer pays shipping costs both ways)

Now, here's how you can help...

We already own the virusstompers.com domain, but we still need a logo and a web design.

Ok, I know the web design is a tall order, but just in case... I'll take help if someone can provide it. I'm good with all the html updates and modifications etc, it's just the page design I lack creativity in.

The logo however is something I'm guessing many of you can help with. I'm looking for a professionally designed graphic/logo for Virus Stompers. I'm not going to influence your ideas by suggesting one, but based on how I've described the business, I'd like you to design your own.

If any of you can help with either of these things I will gladly pay you a small stipend and give you full credit on the website. I'd love to be able to offer more but based on my recent salary reduction and the fact that we're trying to accumulate an emergency fund, I just don't have it. Hence the "me asking you for help" thing.

Please contact me at my email address on my sidebar if you can help.

Thanks again everyone. I just want to tell you again how much I appreciate your recent comments. They really mean a lot. Oh, and btw... even though we don't have our shingle up yet, we actually are open for business. So if anybody needs their computers cleaned up just let me know!

I'll pass the web design info on to Jess, she is the web design division of our company. I'm pretty sure for credit on your blog she'd do it gratis!

Necessity is the mother of invention and you are so smart, I know you'll reinvent yourself to become even better than you already are! It's going to be alright. And you've got "Charlie" back up, which is awsome! Like oprah says, dont stand in your own way! Just find your passon, and you'll be great at it! Good luck little brother! sis
p.s. Do you want mom and dad's new furniture??!!

That sounds like a great business and I hope I never need it! But I'll definitely keep you in mind if I do!

See, now's when I wish I were creative because I can visualize a logo but could never translate it to paper... but there are lots of people out there with actual talent, so I'm sure you'll find something good!

Good luck with the business... and after what my FIL (who does his own computer "repair" business under the table) did to our computer, I may be contacting you at some point. Like when I lose my job and have to give up my laptop and actually use the desktop :)

mom thumb - I've seen her web pages. She's very talented. Thank you.

sis - Thanks for the sweet pep talk. You're such a good sister. :-) But what's this about mom and dad's furniture? You mean so I can sell it? Wha?

heather - It seems that a LOT of people need this kind of help. I hope you don't too - for your sake.

michelle - Thanks... we count on people like your FIL. ;-)

I'm challenged in so many ways, not the least of which is creativity. But I can visualize a logo with a big foot stomping out a cartoony virus. And the virus should be screaming.

I'm not sure if I can make a logo but I could probably use the service of someone going through my hard drive and removing all the bad stuff. $50? That's awesome.

You do leave the porn intact though, right?

I wish I could help you here but all I got are Kiss dolls. Sorry.

brother brother!
Didn't you know dad signed everything over to me??!! No, everytime we wanted to "upgrade" thier furniture, dad said no, because we would end up fighting over it eventually! When the time came... So that comment was a great joke--and I guess I'm the only one who got it!
anyway, we're thinking of ya--go get 'em! sis

I should drop off my laptop to you guys on our next trip down late June... and then pick it up again on our way back four days later. It runs so slowly and I know there are glitches I am just living with.

As for a logo, I'm going to give it a shot. If you need any help with the website design, let me know how I can help there too. Love to lend a hand, and/or mouse!

Kathy had the very same idea I did!

Can't help you with any of the blog design, but I can help promote it. My sister could be your first customer...she is always downloading music, thus she always has viruses.

I'm so glad to see that sun shining through the clouds!

Your new biz sounds awesome. Not only am I happy for you to be doing something cool with your son, but I am happy to have a reliable solution for potential virus problems. Man, I will TOTALLY give you all my business and anybody else's I can come up with.

I'm afraid I can't help much with the design aspects. But I'm sure someone here has the skillz. Whatever you come up with, I meant what I said about popping your logo/link into my sidebar.

(Oh, and Kathy's and my mind are totally in sync: a giant foot crushing a screaming cartoon virusy blog. Now someone just needs to draw it! Ooh! I just thought of someone. I'm sending her your link . . .

Hey there,
JD emailed me right after sending you that comment up there. She definitely is a JD of her word. haha. Anyway, I could have some fun drawing a boot crushing a virus. But a simpler image could be a ugly virus just taunting you. Whatever. either way, I can help with the logo. I also work with a webdesigner. =) You can check out http://seafoodpunch.com for some of the cartoony stuff, but I can also tone things down a bit.

I think the virus should look like a wood tick.

I wish I could help, but can't offer anything but support and encouragement.

I have an idea. Why not ask fellow bloggers to write what they think happened when you got to Harrisburg, Penn. Let their imagination run wild.

How exciting, in a scary sort of way. Weren't you looking for a job when you found this one?

I'm glad to see you making a new start. What a great new chapter for you and your family. I only wish that I had some viruses to send your way!

Hi Jeff,

Logo's schmogo's, I'll knock a few up later today and see what you think, it might be helpful if you could indicate what you have a preference for though - cartoon, symbolic, and bit abstract ???

I also look after our company webs ites and have designed two of them so if you are stuck then I'll put something together for you, again it'll need a bit of input from you with regard to content and "feel" of it but its no problem to put the framework together.

I know the situation you're in, so are we, good luck and don't stop fighting.

I guess the garden furniture was a 'no-go' then. I wish you well with this new venture. I imagine you wouldn't run short of work the way things are with viruses! I would offer my help but you seem to have it all under control now :)

So glad the sun is out! Love your new business idea, you and your family are multi-talented! Keeping lot's of good thoughts for ya'll, and can't wait to see your new logo. :)

I am no good at graphic arts at all, but good luck. What every you end up with will be better than what I could have done.

Seeing as how I am of the Monty Python generation, I of course envision a stomping foot similar to the one in some of their opening sequences. Kind of old fashioned and cartoony, but gigantic and effective. The "virus" could be anything from a word to an alien-like cartoon or a SEM-picture of the swine flu that is currently making the rounds of the news shows.

Sorry I am not the photoshop type so I can't help you there, but I hope you are inspired.

Good Luck!!

Jeff, do you sell ad space on your blog, too? If so, I'd be interested...you have a 4 Page Rank!
