Blast from the past

Ya gotta love Facebook...

...well at least for some things.

A few weeks ago a long lost friend from the 80s worked her way to my FB and sent me a friend invite. From there she told me she had an old video from my Livingston Fury days and wanted to know if I wanted a copy.

Well duh.

And because I have a blog, I am now therefore required to share this video time capsule with YOU. Here we are performing the title track from our 1987 album Nature of the Beast.

I'm quite sure I don't even have to bother with the snark. I'm guessing you'll do just fine.

I got nothin!

Looks like you were having fun, though.

Snark? All I can say is WOW, you guys were tight. I kept wondering if that was a pre-recorded track for filming the video, because it sure sounds great.

The hair was impressive, the way you shook it around. Thought you might knock something over with it at some point.

It looks to me like you had a big arena sound and stage show, but were in a small room.

that crowd was really rocking out.

i'm sure, before the downers kicked in anyway.

That sure brings back memories!!! Remember the week we visited you when you were playing in Texas? And we got to sit and enjoy every night? A LONG time ago!!! It was so great!

Wow... you're right, that hair IS pretty ummm rockin'. Definitely longer than mine, although I think mine's slightly curlier.

I will say that your diary entries are now making a whole lot more sense ;)

Jeff, you guys rocked in this video, I love it! I think that you should put this on YouTube...I bet you get many responses!

ed - There was never a shortage of fun with those guys. I promise.

idaho dad - Yes... we were playing a hotel nightclub in that video. Fortunately, our friend Jill worked for a TV station and was kind enough to do that. I have a few more clips I'll "release" over time as well.

bon bon - Well, we were in Wisconsin. ;b

mom - Oh yeah, I'll never forget that week... you and dad dancing on the tables... security being called in... resisting arrest... Ah, good times.

michelle - I'm glad they make sense to you. I'm still trying to figure them out.

jason - Yeah, maybe we could become famous and... and... and... go back in time 20 years?

It was actually decent as videos from the stone ages go.

I feel a little like you owe me some money for that 4 minutes though.

Also? Lurve you! ;)

It was difficult to watch this video in its entirety, mainly because it brought back such vivid memories... of things no one should have to remember... *shudder*

Did they allow smoking in the club? If so did you fear for the half a can of Aqua Net in your hair? It is highly flammable, you know.

You're a brave, brave man, who clearly has a very strong urge for self-punishment. I applaud you!

I watched this hair care commercial twice and I still didn't see the product they were selling.

Anyway, is that a dangling diamond-encrusted earring you're wearing in your left ear?

Bill said...

Hey, that was from your appearance at the Barney O'Field Lounge of the Sheraton Hotel in Dallas. How could I forget, because you sent the airplane tickets.

Jeff said...

heather - Owe you money? Oh did I forget to mention this is pay per view?

debra - A bigger concern was those flaming flash pots. Fortunately, we never ignited anyone's heads.

kathy - More like cubic zirconia-encrusted. But yeah.

bill - Texas was very similar, but this video was shot in Eau Claire, WI. And I didn't have to send you tickets for that.

Mitch and I just watched this video and we are impressed...no snark. You all looked like you were having a kick ass good time. Mitch even said that it sure looks a lot better than some of the videos on MTV at the same time. And really, it is the Nature of the Beast.

Wow, that's very impressive, very 80s. The hair and the clothes! Thank God we're out of the 80s.

OMG, I just had to watch this with hubby... his first words... "That's HIM???" It was great! Love the song, and the hair, oh my, does that bring back memories!!! One question: do you still have the ear pierced? I can't remember.

I HAVE to show this to daughter....

Jeff said...

carlae - Ooh! Sounds like we've got 2 thumbs up! Does that mean we're going to Vegas?

mom thumb - I thank God I made it out of the 80s.

maureen - I still have 2 holes in my left ear, and I occasionally put a very small diamond in one of them when we're playing, you know, to class up the act a bit. ;-)

VE said...

Nature of the Beast, eh? Would the beast have been you with all that hair? That was fun to watch. Very 80s. Did you do an unplugged version later?

Mooselet said...

There were many great things about the 80s. The music, the movies...

... and then there is the hair and fashion. Um, yeah. Let's just talk about the music, m'kay?

All hair jokes aside - like how much of the ozone did you deplete - I liked the song.

Bill said...

Your right about the location. I remember someone loosing a diamond stone in Eau Clair--Right.

Jocelyn said...

That was awesome! I too enjoyed the hair and sparkle earing but I was sad that you didn't pick up that key...whatever it is and come out front so we could see your outfit it all of it's glory!!

Jacki said...

All I gotta say is....love the hair!

Peter used to play in a band when he was in high school and he has the two earring holes. Is there something about guitarists from the late 80's needing two earrings in there left ear?

Jeff said...

ve - Are you kidding? There was no "unplugged" with Livingston Fury. We didn't know the meaning of the word.

mooselet - We used the large cans of Aquanet... but we called it "Rockquanet!"

bill - You have a better memory than me. How old are you again?

jocelyn - Don't worry, I have more where this came from... including a song I do out front. WAY out front.

jacki - Oh yeah, there was a whole "code" to the earring thing. One in the left was nerdy... two or more in the left was rockin'... any in the right was...
well, there were theories about that.

Avitable said...

That was fucking awesome. Did your hair decide to go solo and leave you behind?

Elizabeth said...

Ahhh suspender dress with a belly shirt, I knew you well in the 80's.
You guys sounded good! Do you still keep in touch with your old bandmates??

PatKG said...

Scared my children.

Loved the glasses! Yeah, we survived the 80's, but at least we didn't have to suffer through the 70's as teenagers... Those fashions and hair were WORSE!

Did Wally get that suit at Barnum & Baileys?

Jeff: You won't remember me (I went by thwe nickname Spinner)but I was working that club in Eau Claire when the video was shot....last night I put your album on and thought today I would Google LF to see what was out there...quite the trip down memory lane. The club was "BJ Tweeds," and I would recognize that cheesy furniture anywhere...and the damn column right in the middle of the stage holding up the ceiling was a rather unique touch!
